I first heard the term "cerebrospinal fluid" about four years ago during a Joe Dispenza course. I remember doing meditations that had me squeeze my perineum to try and move the fluid up my back into my brain.

I encountered it again when I studied breathwork, and then my cranial sacral therapist would talk about it.

Cerebrospinal fluid has continued to hover around my sphere for years, and finally, I decided I needed to go deeper and figure out what I needed to know about it. This is how I encountered the work of Dr. Mauro Zappaterra.

Mauro has spent the past 20 years studying the impact of cerebrospinal fluid on human functioning. He received his MD/PhD from Harvard, where he studied neuronal stem cells and the effects of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) on brain development in adults. His work has been published in numerous scientific articles on CSF, and it was chosen as the cover image for the prestigious Neuron Journal. He is also the author of several children's books that make consciousness teachings accessible to kids, such as I AM, All Love, and All One.

Mauro is one of those amazing consciousness explorers who is pushing the boundaries of science to help explain some of the greater mysteries of the human experience while improving our well-being.

In this episode, we go in-depth on cerebrospinal fluid, its effects on the human body and potential implications for shaping consciousness. I learned a lot!

Some things that stood out to me were:

  • How cerebrospinal fluid is likely the brain cleansing / detoxifying agent during sleep

  • How being intentional about increasing the flow of CSF can yield many positive benefits in our lives

  • Our shared passion for communing with human body parts as sentient intelligence(s)

  • The striking similarities between what the latest research on CSF indicate and what many ancient wisdom teachers understood & taught experientially

  • How CSF might be an information gateway within our own bodies with similar properties to homeopathy.

When I began wearing a Whoop in 2015, I felt that HRV was going to be an increasingly important topic in discussions about our well-being in the coming years. In the same way, I wouldn't be surprised if I'm reading articles about "ways to increase your CSF flow" all over the internet five years from now.

Anyone interested in how modern science can explain mystical phenomena will find this to be a fascinating conversation…I know I did!

Enjoy,

-Scott

Do you still wear a Whoop strap? I'm trying to decide what is best between an Apple Watch, Oura ring, or Whoop.
