“Once we start to align with who we are on a deeper level, it's the same way. We're the same way we can attract things that get in the way. We can also attract things that represent our path. And I think the more you live aligned, the things you attract are consistent with your path. That's why I keep using the word magic, because life starts to feel magical. Well, when you're on your path, life becomes a meaningful coincidence. You know, the right door's open, the right door's closed. It's because we're living not separate from consciousness. We're living aligned with consciousness.” (36:25 in this cast)
Ricky Williams is a former NFL star and Heisman Trophy winner. In 2004, he stepped away from football to explore consciousness, spirituality, and ultimately astrology.
Ricky has become a master astrologer who helps others discover their authentic path through his astrology apps Lila, ask Lila, and personal consultations. He's transformed astrology from entertainment into a sophisticated psychological tool for understanding your deepest motivations and living in alignment with your true nature.
In this conversation, we explore what it took for Ricky to walk away from a system that defined him and how he's come to define himself through his own direct experience. We also dive deep into how you can use astrology to discover your own truth and live a life guided by inner authenticity rather than external expectations.
This episode is sponsored by Conscious Talent - where companies and leaders who value both professional excellence and inner work discover each other.
This week we’d like to highlight an opportunity for a Founding Engineering Lead / CTO. This is a chance to get on the ground floor of a VC-backed stealth startup building a ‘Communal AI’ that privately organizes a community’s wisdom, giving anyone access to the group’s collective intelligence when asking questions or trying to find resources.
Our client is a successful serial entrepreneur whose last company became their category leader (profitable and $1B transactions). I am an investor in this new company and strongly believe in it. You can learn more and apply here if this interests you.
Know someone amazing for this role? Conscious Talent is offering a $2,000 referral bonus if you introduce us to the right person who ends up getting hired.
This episode is great for:
Achievers feeling empty despite external success who want to understand what authentic fulfillment actually looks like
Anyone curious about using astrology as a practical tool for self-discovery rather than just entertainment
People struggling to understand their unconscious patterns and why they keep attracting the same types of situations
Those wanting a more personalized, individualized approach to spiritual development beyond one-size-fits-all advice
Anyone feeling trapped by others' expectations and seeking permission to live their own unique path
Ideas that really stuck out to me:
Your truth often reveals itself through what feels empty not what feels exciting. Ricky's awakening started in 2004 when he was in the NFL locker room and thought, "Is this it?" He now recognizes that his soul was calling him toward something deeper.
Astrology is like a GPS for consciousness. Rather than viewing astrology as entertainment or fortune-telling, Ricky uses it as a tool for understanding your unconscious motivations and deepest desires. Once you learn to “tune yourself to yourself” the external guidance becomes unnecessary because you've developed inner navigation. Astrology helps map those inner desires so you can consciously align your outer life with your authentic essence.
We can only be born at the exact moment that matches our destiny. Just like plants can only grow in the right season and climate, we incarnate at precisely the cosmic moment that provides the perfect conditions for our soul's evolution. This isn't about fate controlling us, but rather understanding that timing is everything and our birth chart captures all the potential for what we can become and what we come here in this lifetime.
Your chart is a map of your unconscious desires constantly seeking fulfillment. The planets represent different archetypal energies within us that need expression. When we suppress these natural impulses, they build up power and create external situations that force their release. The key is conscious expression of your authentic nature rather than unconscious attraction of drama.
Living authentically means aligning with your unique essence rather than following universal prescriptions. Ricky suggests that the future of spirituality will be more individualized. Understanding that what's right for you today might be completely different from what's right for someone else. This is the antidote to both religious dogma and one-size-fits-all self-help advice.
When you align with your deepest nature, life becomes a series of meaningful coincidences. Stepping into the flow of consciousness is not forcing things through willpower. You will learn to apply internal force to live according to your inner truth. The right doors open, the right people appear, and your purpose manifests organically. Life starts feeling magical because you're no longer separate from the flow of existence.
Your challenges are perfectly designed curriculum for your consciousness development. Every difficult person or situation you attract is like receiving the exact weights you need to build specific psychological and spiritual muscles. What looks like random suffering is actually intelligent design. The universe providing precisely what you need to develop the qualities your soul came here to cultivate. This reframes all of life as a cosmic training program.
What struck me most about Ricky's journey is how he applied the same warrior mentality that made him successful in football to the realm of consciousness exploration. He went all in on consciousness instead of just casually dabbling. I can relate to this…though this approach can come with its own set of challenges.
I’ve always been fascinated by the inner transformation that can follow a life built on outer performance. His story demolishes the myth that success means climbing someone else's ladder. Real success is having the courage to define your own version of a life well-lived even when it means walking away from everything society told you to want. Sometimes the greatest act of rebellion is simply being ourselves.
I hope you enjoy this conversation!
