"Everything about it, it's the soul's journey... when we are living out of alignment, when things happen that are shocking and sudden and unexpected, the biology has a plan." (09:54 in this cast)
Dr. Melissa Sell is a former chiropractor, now an educator helping people understand health and disease through German New Medicine (GNM), now known as Germanic Healing Knowledge.
Her work focuses on teaching the Five Biological Laws discovered by Dr. med. Ryke Geerd Hamer that explain how our psyche, brain, and organs are intrinsically connected in ways that changes how we view and respond to symptoms. The big idea is that the body's symptoms are actually intelligent adaptations rather than random malfunctions or attacks on the self.
Having been on my own health journey where I basically lost my vitality for two years, I tend to agree that there is a much deeper connection between consciousness and the body and the Western paradigm acknowledges. I learned that my body is really just an expression of the consciousness, and the way it functions is often to communicate with me in a way that is ultimately beneficial.
Despite so many different books and people talking about this idea, I didn't really see a broader field of medicine that was approaching this in a more unified way until I discovered German New Medicine.
I was excited to explore this paradigm-shifting perspective on health and healing wth Dr. Sell that suggests our bodies are actually working FOR us rather than against us - even when it may not seem that way on the surface.
This episode is great for:
Anyone dealing with chronic health conditions who hasn't found answers in conventional or alternative medicine
People interested in the deeper emotional roots of physical symptoms
Parents wanting to understand how early experiences impact children's health
Healthcare practitioners looking for a more complete framework for understanding disease
Anyone who suspects there's more to health than just genetics and lifestyle
Ideas that really stuck out to me:
Disease isn't random or caused by malfunctioning genes. It's your body implementing very specific biological programs to help you adapt to emotional shocks and conflicts. For instance, breast cancer in women often relates to deep worry about loved ones, while colon cancer connects to "indigestible" situations we can't process.
The body operates through Five Biological Laws. It explain how our psyche, brain, and organs work together in perfect harmony. Every symptom has a specific emotional conflict behind it that can be traced through brain CT scans - making this a scientifically verifiable approach rather than just theory.
What we call "disease" is often actually the healing phase after we've resolved an emotional conflict. This explains why people sometimes get sick right after solving long-standing problems or finally leaving difficult situations - it's not random timing.
Bacteria and viruses aren't our enemies. They're more like microscopic surgeons that help break down excess tissue the body created during conflict phases. This completely inverts our understanding of germs and infection.
Early childhood experiences and even events during pregnancy can create biological conflicts that affect us later in life. Dr. Sell shared a fascinating case where a mother's momentary disappointment about her baby's gender during pregnancy affected the child's physical development. I went through my own experience of this, which I recently talked about in the episode with Chad and Geoff from Supermind.
The body never attacks itself. If we think it is (like in "autoimmune" conditions), we're missing the context that would make the body's response make perfect sense. This challenges the entire paradigm of immune system disorders.
This conversation really hit home for me because it validates something I've observed in my own health journey that our physical symptoms often carry messages about what we need to address emotionally or spiritually.
Our consciousness is creating our reality which is inclusive of the physical body. It is our most intimate creation. The challenge is that we often cannot see the information that is creating it due to our depth of awareness. I find this viewpoint empowering. Instead of needing to outsource all of our health worries to professionals (which can be useful), it creates a sense of agency that is largely missing from the current paradigm that looks outside ourself for everything. What if, what if the true way to longevity is to understand the ways our consciousness is impacting the functioning of our body?
I hope you enjoy this conversation!

Scott, this episode is really challenging my efforts to be open and curious. I certainly believe that unresolved conflicts or shocks can manifest as "disease". But the degree to which one man refuted decades of validated scientific and medical discoveries (i.e. antibodies, contagious illnesses, vaccines, etc) makes it hard to accept this episode at face value. Plus, I'm not finding much in the way of proactive steps. How, for example, might someone who is battling cancer discover the triggering thought or feeling their parent or they had decades earlier? And how do millions of people triggered by the current state of the world turn their health around? Finally, when I visited Melissa's website, she basically credits her current thriving state to a course her boyfriend created, Mind Mastery: The Ever Better Life Course. She doesn't describe how she came to be an expert in German New Medicine. I'm saying this not to be critical, but in an effort to understand what I'm missing.
I also have had and continue to have direct experience with many topics addressed here.
My training in micro-organisms (which I call lovebugs) - human cell interactions have only helped illuminate things more.
