Boyd Varty is a lion tracker, author, coach, and storyteller who brings forth ancient wisdom to help others find deep meaning and purpose in their life.
His books A Lion Trackers Guide to Life and Cathedral of the Wild are awesome.
I was excited to have him on the show because I love the message of his books and just think he’s an awesome human.
In our conversation, Boyd shares how you can apply many of the same principles of tracking animals in the wild to discovering a path that’s uniquely you.
Ideas that really stuck out to me:
The journey to self-discovery often begins with a moment of clarity. For Boyd, it was when his mentor Martha Beck said: "The restoration of the planet will come out of a shift in human consciousness."
True transformation always begins with not knowing. We're conditioned to always have answers, but the real magic happens when we surrender to uncertainty.
Your body is your compass. Pay attention to what expands your energy and what contracts it. That's how you start developing your "track awareness" in life.
The path to authenticity isn't always flashy. It's often marked by simplicity, a sense of enough, and a natural inclination towards service. That's the real payoff of living on your track.
True confidence is not needing anything from anyone. Paradoxically, that's when people are most drawn to you.
The mystics who isolated themselves in nature were onto something. Solitude strips away the unnecessary, revealing your true energy patterns and interconnectedness with all things. It's not about escaping life, but seeing it more clearly.
Boyd’s life has been a continuous process of discovering what he loves and finding a way to share it.
I also really enjoyed hearing about Boyd’s adventures spending 40 days in isolation in nature in order to understand the archetype of the mystic.
He describes feeling like he wasn’t just observing nature, but that nature was observing him. Feeling known by your environment seems to shift your entire perspective on things.
He documented all 40 days of his experience in his Track Your Life podcast.
I really enjoyed Boyd’s perspective and uplifting energy. I hope you enjoy this conversation and check out his work!
Much love,
- Scott

Excellent advise. I particularly liked: "𝘛𝘳𝘶𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨. 𝘞𝘦'𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘴, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘤 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘸𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘺." It's hard to accept this because it requires falling on the predestination side of the "Is there free will?" debate. The choice is simple if you can acknowledge the non-duality principle of the Universe and see all creation as one entity. I would strongly recommend reading Alan Watts' 1950s classic, "𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘥𝘰𝘮 𝘰𝘧 𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘺."
We need to pay more attention to what gives us energy instead of what takes it. Find your authentic path.
