“I think we’re going to see a lot of people who are half professional, half healer in the coming years.”
This was a soundbite from the recording of this week’s episode with my guest Jake Housdon. As the expansion of consciousness becomes more widespread, I agree with this notion that more people are going to live in ways that integrate their spiritual gifts and experiences with their secular lives. If you’re like me, it feels like I can’t help myself and not doing this isn’t even a viable option anymore!
Jake first got on my radar when a colleague sent me a linkedin post of this guy “Jungle Jake” who left the startup world to go buy a retreat center in Peru. The post shared his new lifestyle and how he’s able to live on $10/day in Peru which equates to runway for the rest of his life to build whatever his heart desires. Most of the time I go on LinkedIn I see people bitching about sales emails or humble bragging so this type of content was quite unique and intriguing.
The more I got to know Jake through his content, the more I could see that we are kindred spirits in some ways. We both spent a decade+ working in startups and are now seeking ways to blend consciousness evolution with being a modern professional.
Jake’s story is inspiring and courageous. In addition to his retreat center, he is continuing his shamanic training and creating an ecosystem of products and services dedicated to serving the conscious professional.
In this episode we talk about his mystical story of how he ended up where he is today and the windy path it took to get there. We went deep on many of the perceived polarities that one can encounter while trying to be an earnest seeker who also wants to accomplish in the working world. As someone who has oscillated on both sides of the pendulum quite a bit, I appreciated his depth of perspective.
Jake and I both share a similar vision that to uplift consciousness, we need more people who have integrated both the experience and insights of expanded consciousness that also remain grounded in creating positive change in the material world. My hope is that the rise of this new breed of professional and a more open dialogue about this part of the human experience, can shift what at times can feel like a polarized narrative between business and spirituality.
I love talking about this topic and enjoyed Jake’s perspective which is heavily influenced by South American shamanism. I’ve been spending a bit more time with these traditions perspective since our discussion and enjoy a lot what I’m reading.
I hope you enjoy this conversation and encourage you to check out all the amazing stuff Jake is doing!

Love this! I have been torn for years between earning a paycheck and giving of my spiritual gifts!
Hey Scott - do you have any suggestions on where to look for an ayahuasca retreat? I know you've mentioned doing several, but for instance Jack's website's link to retreats is broken. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
