Abundance is a word that gets thrown around a lot, but it seems like everyone has a different idea of what it means.
For a lot of people, it means money.
Money is seen as a proxy for other things like time, freedom, and creating things.
I once held this view of abundance and now believe it’s a very incomplete perspective.
I was excited to have my friend Sean Clayton to talk about abundance because he has one of the more unique perspectives I’ve come across.
Sean is a serial entrepreneur. He is the founder of Myosin and Myosin XYZ, as well the Science of Abundance which teaches people how to integrate ancient wisdom and spirituality to create an abundant life.
Instead of money, Sean views abundance as the energy that creates all things.
To live an abundant life, you can become aware of how this energy works and align your life to its fundamental laws. This is the recipe for creating an abundant life. Conversely, ignorance of these inner workings often results in cycling through repeated patterns.
A big influence on Sean’s perspective is the 7 Hermetic principles. These principles attempt to explain the nature of reality, consciousness, and the universe.
Although I’m not super familiar with hermeticism, understanding the universal laws so that you can align to them reminds me a lot of core ideas in Daoism and RenXue.
When you align to the laws (Dao), things go well because you are aligning to truth and nature, which are really just the same thing. When you go against the laws (Dao), you experience unnecessary friction and difficulty. You can imagine playing a game without understanding the rules. Awareness is the pathway to understanding the laws.
In our discussion, we discuss how some of these principles work by breaking them down on a practical level.
A bunch of ideas stood out to me.
We already are abundance. What stands in the way of realizing it, is the trauma that we hold on too. This obstructs the free flow of energy in and out of our life.
Abundance is a 2-way street. It’s not just about receiving or getting stuff, but also entails giving. In this view, you are basically an intermediary of resources vs. someone that hoards things. The more you give, the more you get. This reminds me a lot of what I learned from Sarah McCrum in our discussion on the energy of money.
An important unlock to begin living this way is shifting from I to We. When you view everything from the perspective of self interest, it cuts off access to the universal flow. Viewing things from the perspective of uplifting everything around you allows you to begin to receive. This is how you invite more abundance into your life.
The law of cause and effect. Every action has a reaction. When you internalize this concept, it’s much easier to take total responsibility for everything in your life. Including, the degree to which you’ve created the conditions for abundance.
Sean really views things from a metaphysical level. One concept that really struck me is how the way we perceive things impacts how they unfold. Sean articulated this in a way better way then I can so I’ve pasted in his description of this phenomenon from the transcript below:
We are the cause of everything sitting outside of it, observing it. And if you know anything about quantum dynamics, everything sits in superposition, which means it's at some possibility, or B, at any given time. How we observe it, it drops from a thing called quantum coherence into quantum decoherence, so it goes in this really beautiful wave form, and then it drops into material form, and this is how we observe it.
Note, you can find all episode transcripts at the bottom of each episode now.
Other interesting concepts discussed:
Moving beyond linear into curved thinking
Why 2030 is a key inflection point for the direction of humanity
What you can do to impact the direction of humanity
How he believes we can heal our trauma in an instant
Although Sean comes at many of these underlying ideas from a completely different perspective than my own studies, there is immense convergence and overlap.
Usually when there is a convergence of ideas from disparate sources, there’s at least some kernel of truth there. Ultimately, you will need to discover your own truth!
Much love,
- Scott

Some people understand the notion of investment, creativity, and growth. Some folks just know how to hunt, gather, and extract; Some know how to plant, nurture, and husband. Short term, long term. Pretty simple, really. No magical thinking necessary.
It's so refreshing to hear people discuss abundance in these terms. More about being a receiver or channel for good which you then give back to the whole. More about the WE and less about ME ME ME...
Many teachers out there are still limiting their students by keeping them focused on the "I" instead of helping them to focus on the "1" and it's a very subtle but very distinct difference.
I really enjoyed this read and am looking forward to tuning in for the full video as well. Thanks!
