Awesome stuff Scott, so in-line with many of my thoughts of late. It can be kinda hard to tell if there's some massive shift happening, or it's just what we see reflected back at us within reality itself (aka an echo chamber) but as you said, consciousness is always expanding - it's the nature of consciousness. I do think expansion at least for humans is bound by interfacing bandwidth though, i.e. imagine I could telepathically send you (and everyone else in a mental forum) this message rather than spend 5 mins typing it out. With that will come the inevitable fallout and 'negatives' of course.

On AI and fears that it'll gain sentience... we can't even (objectively) figure out the schemas that map out how consciousness works, so how could AI ever become truly conscious - and we're the one's coding it. It just seems... impossible?

PS how do you find Wilber's stuff in contrast to Hawkins? I'm excited to dive into it soon!

Thanks man! That's an interesting point re: interfacing bandwidth. I imagine though in a time of the printing press, the concept that I could have all information at my fingertips within seconds (the internet) would have seemed completely chaotic and impossible.

I am about to release a podcast with Andres from Qualia research that talks about the difficulty of AI sentience. He provides an interesting perspective.

I like Wilber's stuff, but haven't gone as deep in it. He's written a zillion books. I honestly became less interested in these universal models relative to focusing on my own experience shortly after I got in it

Oooo! Super excited to check that pod out. On the models, I feel you on that for sure. Wilbers had an interesting life it seems.

Yeah there was an interesting mark manson article on him. Might be worth checking out
